About the Tournament of Contenders


		The Contender, the critically acclaimed series produced by Mark Burnett productions in association with DreamWorks Television and Rogue Marble Entertainment, premiered in July 2006 on ESPN.
	Sixteen fighters were chosen from across the United States from the elite class of welterweights, each with a story to tell, all with the same goal, to become the next contender and follow in the footsteps of Season 1 Champion Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora. Together, they lived and trained, each benefiting from the mentoring of Tommy Gallagher, Jeremy Williams, and six-time world champion Sugar Ray Leonard. Throughout the Series each fighter were able to analyze one another while training, giving them a critical advantage in choosing their next opponent. Each episode culminated in a five round professional bout sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission where the loser went home and the winner moved one step closer to fighting live at Staples Center for the Championship title.

		Tournament of Contenders, LLC (TOC) is the boxing promotional entity for The Contender. TOC is very committed to making the boxers the primary beneficiaries of the sport.
	TOC has also teamed up with ESPN to promote several live boxing specials including; “The Contender Special: Rematch” at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, “The Contender Special: Pride of Providence” at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, and the “The Contender Special: Latin Warriors” at the Aladdin Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
