David Banks is relatively new to the sport of boxing.  With only two years under his belt and no amateur fighting experience, Banks relies on his raw talent and athletic ability.  The former wrestler says he considers himself an upset specialist and doesn’t mind coming in as the underdog.

Banks credits the birth of his son as motivation to begin a boxing career and says 3 year old David remains his constant inspiration.  Banks’ own father died before he was born, so he is passionate about parenting and helping children.

After a hard fought effort, Banks acknowledge disappointment in his performance against rival Paul Smith in this season of “The Contender”, where Banks lost by a split-decision.  However, during the season Finale in November 2007, he was matched against foe Donny McCrary where he fought vigorously and eventually won with a majority decision.

Never backing down from a challenge, Banks proceeded to fight the powerful Edison Miranda on January 11th, 2008.  The first two rounds were characterized mostly as light jabs and a general sense of “testing” each other.  But by round three, the outgunned Banks was knocked out against the ropes with a perfect right by Miranda.
