Grady “Bad Boy” Brewer has made a career out of being underestimated. Always the opponent - never the favorite, Grady will take any fight, anywhere, at any time. Growing up in Lawton, Oklahoma, Grady was a gifted basketball player and even received a college scholarship, but it was his love of boxing and his desire to provide for his young family that brought Grady back into the ring.
Grady earned his nickname “Bad Boy” by competing in and winning seven out of eight “Toughman” contests across the country. As a professional, Grady has never been “coddled” or “protected” by fighting easy opponents. He has fought 28 fighters with winning records, including nine undefeated fighters such as Sechew Powell, Peter Manfredo Jr., and world champion, Jermain Taylor. Throughout his career, Grady has had to work full-time to support his family, which hasn’t always left him with the time to prepare for his fights. For Grady, The Contender Tournament was the opportunity he has always dreamed of – a chance to properly train and mentally prepare for a fight.
As The Contender Tournament began, it wasn’t long before others began to doubt Grady’s ability and heart. Jamaican born fighter Vinroy Barrett outright questioned Grady’s courage. In their first round fight, Grady put to rest any questions of his ability when a unanimous decision sent Vinroy home. After suffering a cut over his eye, Grady became a target in the tournament's second round. Veteran fighter Micheal Stewart, and his knock-out punch, was next to test Grady’s resolve. Grady put on a boxing clinic, and outsmarted the more experienced Stewart for another unanimous 5-round decision. In the tournament semifinals, Grady faced the tenacious Norbert Bravo for the chance to advance to The Contender Finals. Things started out badly for Grady who, in the very first round, was knocked down by a ferocious left hook from Bravo. Grady once again showed his true underdog’s spirit, by picking himself up off the canvas, and taking the fight to Bravo. For the next four rounds, Grady turned the tables on “El Gallito” and punched his way back into the fight. When the final bell rang, Grady Brewer’s gutsy performance earned him the majority decision and a chance at the finals.
Grady Brewer entered the ring with determination. He was able to use his size and strength to get more shots in and overpower Forbes, in order to be crowned the new Contender Champion. Brewer looks to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors and further launch his career towards a path to greatness, "No one's ever seen me at my greatest - now they will, thanks to the Contender."
