Donny McCrary is a hardworking Midwestern boy from America’s heartland.  Born and raised in Missouri, McCrary learned first hand what it is to overcome hardship.   McCrary’s childhood was far from ideal.  However, he didn’t allow his poor home life, poverty and lack of education to defeat him, instead those experiences became the foundation that turned him into the true fighter he is today.

At 16 years of age McCrary turned to boxing as an outlet, he entered the Golden Gloves and turned pro at 19.  A devoted father of three, the 25 year old doesn’t allow pride to stand in the way of taking care of this family.   He’s been a magazine salesman, an ironworker and before his appearance on “The Contender”, “The Savage” was mowing lawns to make ends meet.   “I’ve got a lot to fight for.  I want my kids to have a life that I never thought I would have.”

After the disappointing Contender loss to Sakio Bika, Sugar Ray told Donny that he showed the heart and determination of a champion “You did win,” Ray said, “you won the hearts of the fans.”

During “The Contender” Finale in November 2007, Donny was matched against the determined David Banks.  After 6 rounds of heavy fighting, Banks was announced the victor by majority decision.

Since appearing on the show, Donny put his skills against Terrance Smith scoring a unanimous decision win and improving his record to 24-7-2.

Currently, Donny is training for the next opportunity where he can demonstrate his dedication and unfaltering drive for victory.
