Jonathan Reid was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. As a professional boxer, Reid has had  an impressive career. He is a former World Boxing Association (WBA) Middleweight World Title challenger and held a record of thirty-four wins, including twenty knockouts, with only one loss prior to being on The Contender.  
 
After spending time in prison for aggravated robbery  when he was eighteen, Reid turned to a life of church and family. He is a father of six and serves on his church’s prison ministry team.  Reid says, “I go to the  Turney Center Prison every third Sunday, trying to let  them know they can get out and be a positive influence in society. A lot of guys are ashamed of that part of their life. I went in and I learned, and I know that that’s not where I want to be.” Reid considered it a blessing to be on The Contender, and entered the tournament knowing that, win or lose, he already had all the things that count.
