British Import Paul Smith comes from a family of Boxers. He and his 3 brothers have all won amateur national championships.Smith started training at 9, was fighting by 11 and turned professional by age 20. In just 4 years, Smith amassed an impressive 12 knock outs.
A silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games in 2002, the popular Scouser has looked dazzling since turning pro, winning the Central Area and WBU International titles, while notching 12 early wins in his perfect 22 record.
As the first European to be featured on the show, the confident Smith says he welcomes the chance to show what makes him a true Contender.
Facing David Banks on “The Contender” Series, Smith showed his toughness and prowess by winning via split decision. Unfortunately, due to a hand injury he incurred during the fight, he was unable to compete on The Finale.
Since then, Smith has gone on to fight Francis Cheka from which he scored another impressive victory and in May, 2008; Smith faced Cella Renda for the vacant English BBB of C Middleweight Title. Guided by Buddy McGirt, Smith feverishly attacked Cella in the 6th round sending him hurt and wounded against the ropes. A few moments later, the referee stepped in and stopped the fight awarding Smith with a TKO.
Soon thereafter, Smith went for the BBB of C Middleweight Title by fighting against Steven Bendall. After going the distance, Bendall was awarded the win giving Smith his first professional defeat.
