Melbourne Australia native Sam Soliman began his boxing career after studying several forms of martial arts including Tae Kwon Do, Karate and Kick-Boxing. The super fit Soliman’s proudest moment as a fighter was winning the Commonwealth Title in 2001.
Formerly, ranked by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) as the number one Middleweight Contender in the world, Sam hosts a Black Belt in Karate, reigned as champion in several kickboxing federations and has battled top-notch fighters such as Anthony Mundane and Ronald “Winky” Wright.
In “The Contender” series, Sam called Max Alexander to the ring and was able to send him down in the fourth round ultimately winning by unanimous decision. Next, Sam faced the uncompromising Sakio Bika whom he faced (and won) in late 2002. For eight hard fought rounds, Sam battled but unfortunately lost by unanimous decision. During “The Contender” Finale, Sam was matched against the tough Wayne Johnsen and after six full rounds, Sam scored a win by unanimous decision thus winning the Bronze medal.
In May 2008, Sam fought fellow Australian and former rugby player, Anthony Mundane for the MBA Super Middleweight Title. This would be Sam and Anthony’s third meeting since turning professional. From the sound of the bell through the entire 12 rounds both fighters showed uncompromising skill, heart and determination. In the end, Anthony was declared the victor by unanimous decision retaining the Super Middleweight Title.
When not in the ring, the eloquent and always entertaining Soliman works as a motivational speaker in Australia.
